Edna's Weekend

March 26th

Awesome spending the day with Edna walking her through the back basting hand applique technique.  I'd picked up Santa Lucia pizza and wine for supper.  Took a tour through the block too!

My butterfly project.

What a lovely weekend with Edna!  We stitched, relaxed, watched some TV and chatted!  I demoed back basted hand applique and Edna practiced and I worked on my own new project.

Now I know there's easier way for skinny stems or antenna but I continued this same method.  NEXT TIME I'll do the bias stitched tube, rolled  to hide the seam, and stitched in place that my friend Shirley taught me years ago!

Today she made bacon, eggs and toast for lunch as we had toast and fruit for breakie!  Then I finished off showing her my newly learnt hexies flat back stitch method before heading home!

Catchup - March 21st-25th

March 21st

Supper break from hexies stitching, think I'm hooked! Yummy chicken taco salad, minus tomatoes and green onions, I forgot to buy!

March 22nd

Ohhhh it's been a LONGGGG day for me with a happy tired! I met Sylvia for an early Sal's breakfast then to her place for a sewing day! With my Janome at KTR, I got to use her older machine. So added the machine binding to the one flannel squares quilt from awhile back. I also was treated to her yummy reuban sandwich for lunch. 😋 Then I quilted another of the flannel squares quilts and she showed me how to bring to the front the wide blanket binding. This too will be machine bound.

Blanket like binding.

Sylvia has been purging some of her boxes of photos and gave me a few that I don't have. 🥰 So here they are! See honest I did have blonde hair till about Gr 5!

March 23rd

Good morning! I thought it said 8:45 so up I got, showered, dressed and making breakfast and it's only 7:30 now!!!!! It's gonna be a very long day as I was up early yesterday too!!!!

But I get to sew on my newly arranged sewing table and Brother machine today. Adding on the last border for my MPQ ABC Scrappy Mystery Quilt, then next week back to Sylvia's to sandwich it!

Well Sylvia has completed and washed her MPQ ABC Scrap Bag Mystery Quilt. Soon to be passed onto the ABC program. She did an awesome job with some of the bag fabrics along with her own fabrics, using Pat Speth's MAB #6 blocks for her quilt.

Yesterday, finally Sylvia was able to have her "family plus me" Christmas gathering at her complex's community room. All her children, spouses, grandchildren, partners and one great grandchild were present - everyone totalling 18! The food and company were awesome. Even celebrated Byran's 25th (actually today), much to Astro's delight!

Hot foods!

International Quilters' Day

March 19th

Global Quilt Connection is on.  This is for our MPQ membership and other quilting guilds world wide and viewed only 24 hours after uploaded.  Check their website for future events.

Awesome Global Quilt Connection presentations at this time.  Can't wait for the others!  💖💖💖  Thank you Kathy for the PDF cheat sheets for MPQ guild members.

Liz Martin said, "Thanks MPQ for these great intro to teachers and techniques through Global Connections. The added benefit of sheets to be printed for patterns and info is great. A good resource and a good reason for guild membership."

March 20th

OMGG I'd decided to stitch my hexies together while listening to the Quilt Sampler sessions. AND what comes up is Michelle Crawford EPP and her "flat back stitch" and medical tape to hold pieces together for her method. So I'm using her technique on my 1.5" paper hexies.

WOW!!! This is so very much nicer than the whip stitch with right sides together that I used to do!

Okay that's enough hand stitching on these hexies! I think I've got the technique down pat and just LOVE the overall effect!

Now I have to try masking tape next as I'm using this Nexcare paper tape up (it's years old).

Busy Day - March 18th

Well this week I changed the cornerstones on the first alphabet quilt top to blue and will have a blue tone on tone binding.  I like it much better.

Also this week I finished the second quilt top this time in red cornerstones throughout and will have a binding of red with tiny coloured triangles(?).  This too I like lots.

Now this last picture I folded both together to see what a mixed bag of colours for cornerstones would be like.  Might do that on the next one that I have to applique blocks for the missing letters!  Will be fun times!

A busy day! Took pictures of my two finished alphabet quilt tops. Next packed up my stuff. Then finally decided to drop my Janome for it's first maintenance/servicing at KTR since bought a few years ago from them. I've been sewing up a storm and have even clean it various times this past year or so but sounds different. And dropped all off at home before returning to my napping friend, Noel. Now relaxing watching NCIS and then the Jets!!!

Tomorrow will be another busy day, picking up Sylvia for MPQ ZOOM meeting at my place, maybe Edna for supper. Plus a mixed bag of virtual tips and techniques for MPQ members to ZOOM into.

Well I've tatted my first paw, about 1.5", from Pattern: 1001 Nós Frivolité 🐾🥰  Thank You!!!

I've I think done my tatting roughly and needs some tweaking! Now to try some in other threads!

Catchup - March 13th-17th

March 13th

Hmmmm I was being nice and sharing a slice of my breakfast banana with the CREW.   I turned to garbage the peel, turned and Griff was too close to my bowl this time!  😆

March 14th

I saw this on Quilting Digest and knew it was me in the past, but not so much the past two years!  That's one good thing Covid has given me - time to stay home and delve into my stash for mask making and now planned or scrappy quilt making!  So I played with the original.

Hmmmm not sure how much sleep I actually get nights as one or all get me up once or twice through the night (whether they need to or just have my nuumber) and that's after all go before bed. Then after their 6:30am breakfast I seem to only be allowed 2 hours nap then someone wants out again! What gets me is once I'm up THEY are out cold for 2-3 hours! My younger sister growled and said ohhhh no they'd be outside for a couple hours! Guess the CREW is lucky it's me and not her!!!

Ohhhh I can't wait to receive this pattern! Thank you very much for designing this paw print!

So I finished off one child's ABC blocks quilts. It's now 36.5" X 43" and not sure if I'll add another blue mottled border or not. I've one more similar to this and maybe another with objects/animals appliqued on white to fill in missing blocks and a number of excess blocks I'll throw into my I SPY quilts! That 2.4 meters and the 1.5 of leggo blocks are going a long way, plus using some stash.

Ummmm I've decided to change the red cornerstones to the same blue as the inside blocks with blue binding!

Here I was going to say I made it through without any major issues! Yeah right!

Edna called as I was doing a quick yard scan before letting the dogs out. So they were out for a bit and glanced out again and Bernese were on the deck but Sam was chopping on something! He stepped away quickly when i called, but I think the grey rabbit was dead! Even with all of us in the house, it did not stir, so I got the shovel and scooped it up, followed the dog tracks, sunk up to my knees, listing sideways but managed to extricate myself, and dumped it over the fence onto open road easeway or whatever you call it. Now to get my heart rate down!!!

If that was not enough, I'm packing up my quilting stuff and nicked the hallway wall!!! DANG IT TO !@#$%!!! 🥺

Shoot I forgot to post these beautiful yard decorations from our walk yesterday!

And here is Noel, my friend for the next few days!

Ohhh so true! And I had light blond long hair in ringlets too!

March 15th & 16th

I had a lovely two days out shopping and of course lunch out both days! Sylvia and Edna were very lucky shoppers, even rubber boots, I only picked up new PJs and later Terry toweling to make another hooded bath towel! But two days of lowering the mushy sidewalk in hopes of it levelling it off I'm achy and sore, but nit sinking in and tipping sideways!

March 17th

To my family, friends and all! I've my fabrics from Ireland but as yet not made my wall hanging. Better get my heels snapping!
