Catchup - May 16th-21st

May 16th

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
I don't think I've personally driven in such a heavy and steady downpour as today 4:30ish AND it even tried to hail but thankfully tiny pellets and short lived!!! It was a bit white knuckling driving out of dntn but nearing Archibald and Mission towards Transcona areas it totally eased up. The sky behind me though was very dark and threatening. Now out with the Crew it's north side sun breaking through scattered clouds, south side is dark stormy like. Weird EH!!!

Dang it's so peaceful out on this deck enjoying my coffee. I should have had my breakfast out here! Later on I'll relax out by the pit with the Crew!

Taking a break after cutting out the last two blocks for the ACQ mystery to have lunch outdoors. Crispy mini peppers!!! But Wheels and I are in the shade, the others???? I'm sure Griffin is in the shade of a tree or he'd be here too!

Well I've finally sewn up the last two blocks for the ACQ mystery. There are 8 sets of blocks in two versions of similar fabrics. And tomorrow I'll will play with the layout and start sewing up the sashing and hopefully finish borders???

May 18th

OMGG!!! Well I cut the sashings and started sewing it together. I should have stopped sewing sooner. Things were going so well until I noticed the centre column was not lining up. So "rippit" in action and finally fixed one join but then the Oilers n Canucks hockey game started so I quit for today. Got my chefs salad ready, glass of wine and now relaxing with my feet up. That is till the power flicked off but came back on sooner than later BUT the TV took its sweet time and I missed the Oilers goal.

What a beautiful morning!!! Definitely a "Rose Anne" type of summer day! Lovely breezes, birds singing, no bugs, and definitely no HEAT! I hate hot +27C and no breezes days!!!
We're all enjoying it, even if I've lots of sewing to do. Enjoyed breakfast and now my coffee in my travel mug so I can extend my stay out!!!

I'm happy I've the inside border sewn on and centre vertical just about perfect. Now I'm going to see if I've enough of the dusty rose for a 2" inner border before ending with the 3" pink.

Yeah the second border was possible with some creative planning as I only had a 33x37" piece left over! Now to figure out the last border.

I'm leaning to the solid blue but the pink with creative dusty rose inserts brings out the blocks! They are the focus so not sure but hate finishing solid pink.

That was the problem working on this quilt, I hate the pink background, but other Konas just did nothing for the group of fabrics. Oh well it's just about done!!!
Not sure about binding as I'm donating the top to MCC with left over pink and blue fabrics.

May 19th

My yummy supper, sweet n sour pork on fried rice and asparagus from Angie's garden! 😋

Hey it's as finished as it'll be! My ACQ mystery block top is complete and ahead of time for reveal.

As noted I'll be donating the top and pink and navy blue left over fabrics to MCC and I'm going to suggest to bind in the navy blue fabric.
Tomorrow I'll plan out my Scrappy Triangles an start to sew them together!

OHHHHH SHOOT!!!! I should have checked earlier, "check twice before you cut" is the rule that I didn't follow! See these extra 10 Scrappy Triangles were trimmed to 6.25" instead of 6.5" - DAMN!!!

Well at least I still have the batik scraps, green fabric and patterns to redo these blocks, not going to trim down the 51 I've ready at 6.5", no way!!!

A food wise use for a wine bottle cork opener!

May 21st

Dang it!!! Those miserable mosquitoes are hatching and I got my first bite today! It was so nice outside this past week! So it's never mind suggestions of natural repellents (I've tried many and they aren't effective enough for me - one summer of near hospitalization from my allergic reaction was enough for me) and sticking to my Dr's orders to use the strongest Deet spray I can stand OR don't go outside!!! I hardly went out last year compared to years ago, except for windy or cool days!!! This is a few bites from a couple years ago, nothing like that Ontario vacation that I was bitten even through my clothes, not a pretty site for a few weeks till antihistamines took effect. Was more groggy from that than ever using Deet!!!

Okay yesterday I redid those too small ten extra Scrappy Triangles blocks and played with the layout until I think it's OK. There's so many colours and patterns that I'm sure it does not matter. It's my baby and I'm pleased with this so I'll start sewing up the blocks!

Catchup - March 24th-31st

March 24th

So today I pulled out my BAGFUL of various Canadian themed cottons and sewed up these four blocks.  They will be taken to Quilt Canada by Tanis for me (thank you) and donated for their sewing of quilts during the convention.   www.quiltsforsurvivors.ca

March 26th

Today I finally stitched up my ACQ mystery blocks #13 and #14 for March. Not sure there is a next set or instructions for layouts and assembly! This has been a couple of rough days but sewing has helped to keep me distracted.

March 27th

Ohhhh boy I must be sick!!!

See, I'm looking for some special threads the Lace girls want and at the same time gone through laces and started sorting them to give away to my friend's Teulon library crafts n to Monica.

Ohhhh and I found the small tub of batik scraps I used on those green HSTs blocks that I'd put away and couldn't find a few months ago. So now they are out for my mini hanger!

Maybe I'll soon get most of my crafting supplies out and get my fabrics out of boxes and into bins and maybe on the shelves? I've a couple more recipients for fabrics etc so may do quite a bit of purging in that poor sewing room. I'd love to tackle more in there but I'll listen to my body!!!

March 28th

Maybe a new idea with reject or thrift jeans?  Stuff the legs with polyfil, stuff a tee shirt in waistband and stitch closed, add toys to pockets, then anchor legs in a lap-like position.  VOILA a cat bed!!!

Now while looking for specific threads I came across a big baggie of various sized HSTs PLUS a baggie of these blocks and scraps. My initial thought was to pack them up to Adeline but then decided to make up more freebie NICU tops. The rail fence one is short 3 blocks so pulled out my fabric and cut three to fit in. Thank you whomever passed these onto me!

March 29th

Happy Easter!!!  I just love this mini tea cup idea!

Oh oh!!! It's sneaking back in again!

March 30th

Hmmmmm the excitement of seeing me is fast over. And Riggs, the foster B&W boxer, is a fast handle door opener BUT doesn't close it after all are inside. So you need to lock it after yourself to keep him out with others!!! Fun and games!

Just love this idea!  Even for towels in the bathroom!

March 31st

Wouldn't these be cute in your garden?

WOW!!! I saw this bright spot through the trees out front. It's the sunset on the windows across the river on the apartment block on Rivr Ave. Then looked towards the west and saw this block just across the river on Roslin Road also awash in sun! WOW!!! But missed seeing the church spire aglow!

Catchup - Feb 11th-17th

Feb 11th

Hmmmm hope I'm free to check it out!!! I love quilt shows!

Feb 12th

Dang what next!!!

So I forgot to post our puzzle visit yesterday. We finished off that eagles puzzles Sylvia had bought at the Mission Thrift Store for $3, faster going than the crazy quilt one of mine! She'd chosen Kristen's loaned puzzle to do next. But last night Anita dropped one off, but wants it back, so Sylvia started it last night!

Today I sorted out a few mismatched "opposites" ACQ mystery blocks plus stitched up #11 and #12 for February. So now they are all noted on printouts and in my gallery. Hopefully the next set will go smoothly! I'm sure it's soon nearing completion and assembly process.

Feb 13th

Well I again went over to Sylvia's to set some puzzle, which we finished it too! Then started to sort out the pieces for the Aurora Borelis. She had made mushroom rice and chicken casserole, which I like, so invited me for supper, even some leftovers for another time. Then we decided to set the tents pieces before I went home! Lots of same colours with slight shade changes and smaller pieces sizes. 💞

Feb 14th

OHHHH MYYYY it's been a gazillion years I've been out for supper! Thank you Kristen and Sylvia for arranging this evening. Hope it's an awesome meal and bubbly company. And free dessert, 2 plates for 5 of us!!!
Well definitely a Galentines Day supper!!! I honestly had not heard this before!!!

Feb 15th

OMGG!!! This is a first that I've forgotten to post about receiving a fabric postcard from my swap, I was not up to par then. Annette I'm totally SORRY for not acknowledging on January 22nd that your lovely Paris in Springtime postcard had arrived, reminded me of my July visit. I love your rendition of the Tower and the blossoms. The variegated satin stitch added to the spring theme. Thank you so much.

What an awesome idea for a personal I Spy book too! ❤️❤️❤️

Well here's the confirmation off ZOOM that the two quilts from you Barb, Kim and Dianne were donated to MPQ ABC. Loveliest of those donated.

Feb 17th

So I made it to another Aurora Quilters meeting and here's the start of my project today. When it grows up it'll be another NICU coverlet.

And Pat enjoy ribbing me about such small squares, even 2 seconds for one block rippit!!! 😉
