Catchup - Oct 27th-30th

Oct 27th

Okay, my first road trip in winter conditions! Yes we checked apps and TV and decided Winnipeg was the worst so Grand Forks bound we were! Left Wpg 10:30ish and got to Morris like 2 hours later, hungry and BR break needed!

Oh yeah! Well I'm proud of myself! We left Wpg 10:30, stopped at Morris for a quick lunch before heading to Grand Forks for a quilt show! Took about 5.5 hours with majority of MB at 30 km/ hr, half on the shoulder. No cars in the ditch but one semi jacknifed halfway to Morris and then near Morris we had to detour on side roads 1 km to get past semi in the ditch and another jacknifed blocking the whole road. But gosh once we crossed the border the roads were WOW WOW WOW - amazingly clear!!! We did wonderful easy winter driving from there to GF! Supper at Red Lobster was delicious!!!

Our stuffed mushrooms appetizer.

Right front my shrimp n Brussel sprouts, left is Pat's shrimp n scallops n broccoli and top is Sylvia's shrimp n broccoli.   I forgot to take it when delivered!

Now we were all kinda disappointed with Hobby Lobby and Joann's and totally disgusted with TJMaxx and Target! Didn't have time for Menards - next time maybe. Tomorrow is the quilt show then heading back! Hopefully Manitoba roads will be lots better!

Oct 28th

We're back in Wpg all home now, safe and sound, pleased we went but tired.

We had a lovely day checking out the North Star Quilters Quilt Show and some quilt store shopping there too. Then lunch at Ground Round, YUMMY, and a quick stop at Kohl's, WOW love that store!!!

I just love the quilting on this one, suits it perfectly!

I just love the quilting on this one, quite detailed!

This was my pick for Viewers Choice, very hard to do!

I totally loved this 3-D quilt and have a few closeups I'll show here.

I gave up on my crumb quilt blocks, gave them to Adeline in Kenora, but like the circular quilting.

I totally LOVE ❤️ this one and hope to make my own version of it wall hanging sized.

Was totally impressed with the quilting.
Will show here.

Ground Round lunch, top left Pat's ceasar salad n French onion soup, top right Sylvia's French onion soup n sweet potato fries,  mine in front Big Daddy Quesadilla Burger n fries.

Then gassed up and on the road again. Good thing too as we got to the border 4ish to be told Hwy 75 was closed within the last hour. SHEESH, we thought it would be better after Friday's mess!!!

Semis at a standstill on Hwy 75 as far as the eye could see!

The official who checked us at the border suggested we go through Emerson, then Hwys 200 and 201 east towards Stuartburn which both were ice covered, slow and easy, then onto Hwy 59 which was totally dry and clear to Wpg. Honestly I don't know what the crap is wrong with Hwy 75 when you cross that magic border line and then highway 29 is dry and totally clear???

Oct 29th

And here are my treasures bought in Grand Forks, amounting just below my allotted $150 US cash I took with me. All items were either 30% and most 50% off and starting prices lower than our Cdn prices. Food was mine and hotel n gas were shared on my CC.

Someone wondered about this method! Hope this helps.

Oct 30th

Another busy day and also another snow warning for us too! Started off with a visit to Sylvia's and a change of her door hanger.

Then FINALLY visited the Lien's in their Retirement Residence and Katsu who is aging but still with spurts of puppy energy! I'm glad I've stopped in for a visit and hopefully do so soon again.

Afterwards I headed back downtown to pick up Edna and stopped at Olive Garden for soup, salad and bread sticks supper then off grocery shopping. By then it was gusting and icy patches were showing up. Glad I took us shopping so both of us can stay put tomorrow!!!

Once home I'm relaxing on the recliner and notice this bruised toe nail.

It didn't hurt to walk but the inside shoes I wore at the retreat was bugging this toe lots. HMMM!!!! Now what to do? If I press on it it hurts, so if worse tomorrow, I'll get it checked out this week.

Catchup - Oct 24th-26th

Oct 24th

We were on the road again!!! Edna and I together and Pat driving Sylvia's car as we had to bring bedding and bath towels etc too. So we're at Roseau River Bible Camp for a smaller OMA's quilting retreat. Place looks lovely. We're here till Thursday.

Oct 25th

Well here are some pics of projects we worked on yesterday. More to come today!

Good morning! Well I've not had baked oatmeal for breakfast before but darn it was good!!! Sylvia is back with her Bali Bedrunner pattern by Judy Niemeyer, having fun matching up. Now I'm caught up with my two October blocks from ACQ BOM, waiting for November's two blocks now. I'm really liking that I decided on the "opposites" for the smaller HSTs. Finally with Adiena's help Edna has her pillow top closer to being finished. And Pat is working on another UFO, this one a square table topper.

Oh oh what is it with October retreats??? But we're having fun. And more indoor art!!!

This is Pat's photo going to breakfast.

So here is a progress report on today. Snow falling thick n steady! Hopefully gone before noon tomorrow!

Working on another UFO project.

Finishing another UFO project, a table topper.

Sylvia got me!!!

Then a nice one!

Edna's lovely ribbon quilt blocks, but ran out of one fabric for two blocks.

Awesome Christmas gift bags ready for the gifts to go into.

Pat's finished UFO paper pieced Snowflake table topper.

Edna starting paper pieced snails tails center blocks.  Love her colours.

Sylvia's 5 Yard Quilt ready for borders.

One side of my tote.

The two pieces with bottoms together.

Oct 26th

Good morning! What a lovely surprise, someone very sweet (❤️ Adiena ❤️) went and cleaned all the windows on our vehicles! It looks so beautiful out there. The first is from inside, the second from the doorway and (to be added) last few on the walk to breakfast.  Update of pictures from dining hall too.

Going for breakfast!   Lovely out!

I turned around to get this of our sewing/sleeping unit!

There's a zipline here too but not really visible in these pics.

These two are Pat's photos.

Here's today's projects. Pat's tote just about finished. Sylvia's 5 Yard quilt top finished. Edna continued working on her 4-patches to later on continue her Snails Trails project. I put together a few excess blocks for a large placemat or table topper, will see. No problem driving home after leaving the gravel soupy road behind. Definitely less and less snow closer to Winnipeg.

If you're able to, please attend.
