New Year's Eve 2020

WOW!!! I wonder if I even remember the carols, never mind can sing them? But I'll try!

GOOD BYE 2020!!!!!!

May 2021 bring you new dreams, new hopes, new experiences and new joys; I'm wishing my family and friends a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Well yesterday while watching/listening to the three games of Junior hockey I tatted a new but very simple pattern, the tree garland posted by Rita Dybdahl Cline! Hmmm, that's what I thought, but dang it, I had at least three rippits, redos, more careful scrutiny before closing next rings, before I finally completed a bookmark. I kinda doubt I'll get as ambitious and make a tatted garland for my tree as Rita did.

Pattern was Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Ornaments 1992 by Mary McCarty.

Well wasn't sure how this year would end after my painfil start! See I decided to change my big board ironing cover, which was a good decision! The bad was putting the hot iron on the mat on the floor so I could arrange all and pressed my outer calf against it! SINGE!!!!!! Ice, polysporin and bandaids to the rescue so I could go out!

Finally a visit with Sylvia as we walked in her area past the Niakawa Country Club and back! Next time we'll try the walking path along Fermor. It was nice winter weather and the road not slippery so we both enjoyed it and hope to do so again, but would rather visit, sew together or just enjoy a puzzle etc! It will happen!

Happy New Years to All!!! 🥂

A lovely end to the "cough" 2020 with this lovely snowball from Kirsten W.H. of Denmark in the Fringe Tatters FB group! I just 💖💖💖💖 this beauty! Thank you very much! I so love these exchanges!

It's hanging off my Pepsi can airplane in front of my micro lights tree on my window.

And while out for a drive this evening I even caught the 7 pm fireworks from the Forks! I wasn't close enough for clear pictures! WOW! I didn't think they'd have them!

Now I'm relaxing with coffee n Baileys watching today's games of the IIHF World Junior Championships.

I 🙏🙏🙏🙏 that 2021 will be loads better so we can all enjoy the awesomeness of life together once again, safe from this pandemic!

So Thankful!

OMGG, lots to be thankful for today!

First joined Edna for a wonderfully warm winter-day walk in her neighborhood!

Awesome sunshine and sometimes snowflakes with just about no wind!

Nice to see so many out and about, friendly but also very considerate of the narrow sidewalks in the Wolseley area!

My body and spirit, minus the aches and pains it usually overloads me with!

And finally Edna asking how close we were to Tall Grass Prairie Bakery? WELLLLL, talk about three blocks away, so we just continued, they were open, and we each picked up their whole wheat cinnamon buns (yummy anticipation) and I also a couple of their fruit squares. I think that was her plan when I suggested we see how far I could go! We came across a couple shops we'll check out on another walk. Especially Prairie Sky Books where we saw this unique tree display with an appropriate title!

Then we turned back and the last 6 blocks to my car, I seemed to run out of oomp and slowed right down! But what did I expect with 8 kms, even Edna said we'd not done that for a LONG time! It was awesome and each of us ending it with coffee and cinnamon bun at our homes!

Creative Finishing

 Dec 28th

Hmmmm this is the first I've seen of this, not sure if factual, but I don't think anything said is harmful but just might be helpful! Thank you Ricky!

This was shared on a Covid survivor group...have heard many of these before but it seems helpful: Not sure about the term “smashed lungs”, but the rest sounds legitimate HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME

No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia.

The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions - Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her, "What can I do to help fight this at home?" She said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in.

Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have.

When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs. While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial.

Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Do not drink anything cold - have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. "

Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter.

We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn't a lot of information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has helped me.

 Copy and paste please.

OMGG I learnt something today or maybe relearnt what I'd forgotten! Thank you Georgia for these awesome tutorials! They are my go to when coming across something I'm not sure of! Now onto finishing this snowflake!

Split Chain

And now that I finished tatting a snowflake I got busy stuffing the cut strips of poly batting into the window joins. Stopped the drafts real quick, but its still colder near the old windows! The thermal curtain liners help both summer and winter! If we get -30C for too long I'll cover them with plastic then I'll be nice and toasty! If we have a so so winter I'll be OK! Hopefully it'll be the last winter here!

Dec 29th

Here's two days of fun between watching the Junior hockey championships and saved Christmas movies!

Also I can't forget the virtual Canadian Rockies show on tonight too! Something I would like to do but not sure what to expect, have gone by car before!

Thanks Laura for the query about the timeframe!

Ooopsie, I tatted the white snowflake and the button tree yesterday. Then the previously tatted button ornaments from the last week I starched all yesterday! Sorry!

My chair lamp display, three in back were gifts in an exchange, the three in front are my latest works.

All starched.

Starry Snowflake by Linda S Davies 2014.
Will be a present soon.

Dec 28th

Well Jack Frost visited this morning for the first time this winter! This is my reminder to put some quilt batting in between the panes where the rubber has aged! Guess I know what I'm doing when I finish tatting this snowflake!

Okay back to tatting and Junior hockey championships!

Boxing Day!

Ohhhh ohhhhh now scamners are texting too!!!!  Don't connect or reply!!!! Beware!!!

I used 411 Reverse to see the caller names etc and it came up a USA bumber but no nsme!this and gave message details as requested, not my info though.

OOOOOHHHHH MMMMMYYYYY!!!! Look what 🎅 gifted Astro!!!! I just got messaged! Ain't Astro so dang cute???? I mentioned this to Amanda along with asking if she bought some earplugs! She laughed and said others asked that too! He looks like he's got the technique down pat!

My friend Angela sent this to me and I'm sorry but I need to share and play it again! 🤣🤣🤣

Lost My Glasses  click here for a song

Ohhhhh it was awesome for a Wellington Cres walk that is for sure! Just my knee and hip cut it short but better some than none! 🤗🤗🤗 Even nicer meeting all types of dogs, especially the pups, along with the lights on the return trip.

OMGG it may have been a day late, delivered to me and eaten alone, but it was still so very delicious! Heartfelt THANK YOU to Pat and Randy for the delicious Chrustmas care packages!

The 24th was two pieces lasagna, cookies, fruit cake and candies and thank goodness I froze one piece.

Today's delivery was separate containers of turkey, meatballs and gravy that were just scrumptious, dressing, perogies, mashed potatoes and corn! OMGG I didn't even scoop out half for supper and yet I'm stuffed! Topped off with Edna's vinetarte along with a glass of Chardonnay! 🎄🥂🎄 Sorry forgot pic!!!

So I've another helping for tomorrow and extra turkey for another day for a turkey salad sandwich lunch! I'm totally spoiled by them all and truly do appreciate this! 💞💞💞

Now relaxing, crocheting a tree decoration for myself and watching the 2021 World Junior Championships.

Merry Christmas!

Well I'm feeling OK but throat and ears are achy. Talking voice gets croaky fast. 🤔  one of my friends said "I feel like my throat gets sore if I do any amount of chatting now. Covid isolation symptom!"  ?Maybe?

Dec 23rd

Finally something to look forward too! Now let's pray and hope for safe travels and playing for all to pull this off!

GO JETS GO!!!!!   NHL 2021 season

Dec 24th

Somehow I've lost a week! YOWSERS!!!! 🙄

Anyways I finished crocheting these Stacked Flower Ornaments found in Crochet World, December 2020, weeks ago but kept thinking I had time yet to starch them! Cutting it close I'd say! Then I missed ONE in the 28 flowers and still not complete! I've assembled them with two types of bell bases and separated with squat crystals in varying sizes between layers and topped with a smaller crystal and these iridescent stars I've had for years! Nifty but not sure I'll be making anymore!

So far those gifted are a hit!  Plus generated much discussions on my posts, from compliments, to reminiscences of past gifts, to gotta get the magazine to make gifts for next year!!!!  Awesome!!!!

Dec 25th

Merry Christmas to family and friends! May you find many blessings of joy and good health in 2021! 🙏💞🥂

My favourite so far!

But couldn't resist the Red Truck!
But both have my Snowman within spreading Joy!!!!

Catchup - Dec 14th-22nd

 Dec 14th

Ohhhh I miss you guys!!!! All my special pet friends too!

Oooohhhhhh how appropriate, Covid is the Grinch that is stealing Christmas!!! I've always liked De Suess books and my friends finding this Christmas card is awesone! Now honestly people smarten up so we can get out of this mess! And if you're against vaccines then smarten up even more and stay home till this clears!!!

Dec 15th

Update: I picked up some more cards and spent last night writing 18 cards each for both the Deer Lodge Centre and Riverview Health Centre. Plus one for All Care Givers at each centre! I thought my arm was going to go limp as I wrote a personal message in each. The Riverview ones were dropped off at the collection address nearby and the lady waved an ecstatic thank you!!! 💞💞💞

Hey this just came via email and I screensaved it to share here! I've mailed off some to two care homes already! Gonna have to remember this for next year!

Thank you Carol for posting this! I was trying to explain about the polio shot and the many with that shot spared the crippling disease, but some seen about periodically. That's why I'm for all vaccines!

Now I know what a tight tatting shuttle feels like, my poor thumb! I'm back to my snowflakes and decided to try my new long pick shuttles ordered from the Stitchers Muse on Vancouver Island.

https://www.facebook.com/TheStitchersMuse/

The one on the left is the Albino Horn #934 with an awesome feel and good thread glide. The darker one is the Golden Horn #937 and very very tight to the point I honestly thought my Lizbeth cotton was going to shred by the time I finished loading and tatting the ornament, hopefully it will loosen up! So I returned to a previously tatted pattern, Tatted Snowflake by JoAnn Engelbrecht. On the left is Lizbeth #601 white and on the right Liz Metallic #312 Iridescent, both size 20, but metallic is slightly thicker! Not sure which I like better though?

Well they turned off posts for this event so am sharing to let you know there is a price for online viewing! Something I'm totally annoyed with and not going to participate in! Would have been better to be free with a link to a "registered" Charity for donations after viewing! My preference, like the CP Rail Holiday Train I viewed and donated too!!!

Dec 17th

OMGG!!!! This is one of so many UFOs I have to get back to one of these days! This is supposed to be a carrying bag for my 18" bobbin lace pillow! It will be quilted in black or dark green thread starting in the centre and spiralling outwards. The sides will be 1/" inch apart straight lines. Jacqui tried to go back to where she bought her's but they were all gone! Thankfully when in Cuba I picked up a lovely made tote for my smaller square travel pillow!

Jacqui's pillow tote front.

Back

My large round pillow.

My Cuban travel tote with a hedgehog pin!

Dec 18th

Gosh wish I had a back yard for this character?

Ohhhh it's so cool with that wind blowing through these poor windows that I kinda didn't want to venture outdoors! But I can tell you I totally enjoyed the 5 km walk with Edna through Bunn's Creek! It was so sunny that at times I could barely drive or see vehicles while crossing roads! Yes a totally delightful day even if my hip was acting up! 🤗

We're on the Red River on the east side off Henderson Hwy.

Parking lot to the Red River and back just under 5 kms.

My first painted rock I've found and left there.

Just relaxing my back n hip!

What a view too!

And once home a night view with the crescent moon, with my micro lights and their reflections in the outer window!

Dec 19th

OMGG I could not sit at my machine near the window any longer for my Aurora ZOOM gathering. My feet were so chilled and I had my fleece slippers on! As soon as Christmas is over I'm taking down the micro lights and plastic covering this huge drafty window!

What a lovely day, first ZOOM gathering of some Aurora quilters, tatted more button snowflakes, finished off two requested masks for Andrea before trying to download the 3d Mask pattern, ZIPPO!!!! Thank you Tami for coming to the rescue!

Then finishing off the evening with a tour of a few St Vital homes and Arbo Flora, all snazzied up! Yes I drove past your place Linda and then across to St Mary's, the perimeter to Pembina Hwy, to Tami's to drop off buttons for her project before finally heading home! Some homes were bare, some modestly lit, some beautifully lit and then there were those out to garner some attention to way overdone. Then home to the Legislative grounds that always fascinates me with this moose!

Arbor Flora next #1 to #4

#2

#3

#4

Across from Linda!

Lots of these lovely Snowmen everywhere!!!

The start to the Legislative grounds, river side!

I wonder if they have smaller ones to put up on trails?

Dec 21st

Ooohhhhh, this just about had me bawling!!!! Thank you Karen for this beauty, hanging under my sewing lamp in the winter corner!

He's sitting inside my window on the outside snow ledge ❣

Dec 22nd

I think it's going to be an even quieter Christmas for me as I seem to be coming down with a cold! Just sniffling n sneezing n achy throat/ears again, no chills or fever! Guess it's a good thing we're to "stay home"!

Luckily last week I picked up what meds I had run out of after the fall session! I'm thinking it's my sinuses again as I feel a little better after the morning nasal spray, just ears and throat soreness!
