Catchup - April 28th-30th

April 28th

So here's my MPQ ABC Mystery Bag quilt, washed n dried ready for drop off later today!  This was a quilt with many challenges as I did not have enough fabric to finish plans and cut things incorrectly, but finally finished.  I used Pat Speth MAB's #6 and #14 (altered).

Mystery Bag fabrics.

My fabric stash add ins plus outer backing fabric.

Another long day! Smitty's breakfast treat from Sylvia, an errand and some normal shopping before back to Sylvia's. She made chicken taco salad sans diced tomatoes - ohh well still very good. Then she washed/dried my mystery quilt for me and combined our fabric purchases in a load too! Awesome! Even perused her books and magazines for new projects 👍 as if I need more!!!!

Then I left to drop off my mystery quilt to be included in the ABC project, Angela's baby towel gift (was given this panel which will be another ABC quilt) and lastly the serged towel for Edna's hair then home to relax with feet up! Another great day!!!

April 29th

Love it!

Yes to repurposing but a different colour for my tastes!

Those with back yards, pools or not, worth a try?

I just about hit one the other day and now there are more!

April 30th

Ohhh another lovely day even if wet n dreary out!!! I picked up my 'artsy' sister and headed to this Art Show and to meet up with Karen Moffatt. Lovely!!!! The Church ladies put on a lunch special of homemade soup, sandwich, pickles, dessert and coffee or tea for - get this - $7!!! Can you believe it??? It was delicious!

Then we checked out the various artwork on display/sale and picked up printed greeting cards and magnets. I also got my sewing needle from Sylvia before dropping her off!

Since I was earlier than I thought, I headed out to Aunt Monica's Attic and FOUND a Pepsi puzzle, matching set of beads (in above picture) for a scissor fob and some blue tatting thread to finish off the last two heart postcards one day!

Now feet up and back to my hexies project, one side is complete. Second identical side halfway sewn up. Then I'll sandwich it and hand quilt it too.

Catchup - April 25th-27th

April 25th

Ohhhh to be so young with long hair again!  NOT!!!!

🔊 YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!!!!! 🎉 I've just finished my MPQ ABC Mystery Bag quilt. 👏 YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!!!!! 🥳

I came quite close to scrapping it many times, when trying to prep the blocks, never mind the sashings, borders, backing and even the binding! Yep this was a quilt that probably shouldn't been finished except I was danged if it would get the best of me!!!! I've decided I need a pattern to fall back on even when I don't really follow it step by step, I'm not a designer!!!

Pictures will come Thursday after washing and then I'll drop it off to be included in the ABC project!

April 26th

What a smart idea!!!

April 27th

Them pool noodles sure get around!

I use mine for the water but also to roll up my quilt tops till I get to quilt them!!!

What a lovely day! Picked up Edna, Pat and Sylvia before heading out to OMA's for a visit, shopping and dropping off a puzzle for her too! Then back 59 to the Olive Garden for awesome soup, salad n breadsticks lunch before heading north. We missed out on Cedar House Quilting this time but will return soon! Then onto Selkirk to Momma Bears before checking out a couple Thrift shops and drive back to the city. I'm pooped!

Well this was the first time I encountered issues making a baby bath towel! First I made the hoodie too small so had to recut from the other corner so one less face cloth. Then I misjudged and trimmed previous stitching ahead of the ending. DANG IT! So had to do a repair job - first time! I gotta get better lighting in that corner!

Catchup - April 22nd-24th

April 22nd

Thank you to Ewa of NeedlePoint Place, now at 113 Marion Street, for having an 0.4mm crochet hook to allow me to add beads to my tatting trims for the finer tatting threads and tiny beads!
http://needlepointplacewinnipeg.com/

Much appreciated while waiting for my online ordered hooks (spares for when I again snap off the hook - DUH) to arrive from Artisanthropy of Whitby, Ontario.

Ohhhh boy, here's what the Weather Network says for us next few days! And it's raining out my windows heavy and steady. Wonder what it'll look like out there after this storm passes, winter again or spring finally!!!

April 23rd

So what does one do on such a weekend - well I sew my day away!

April 24th

Okay I've completed the last four postcards for the Ukraine refugees support fundraiser. Two more of the heart and egg with tatted edges and two of a Sunflower field near Neepawa MB I've stopped and taken pictures of (noted on the backs). These will be mailed off this week to Monika Kinner.

So here is a summary of all the fabric postcards for the Ukraine refugees support fundraiser I've made. Even with the minimum donation of $20, I'm helping to contribute $220 to this cause. I've tried to go online to the museum to see postcards submitted but they are not on at all. Too bad!

Crazy patched eggs with machine embroidery.   First set already mailed off.

Hand stitched together hexies, placed and machine embroidered then trimmed to size.

Fabric shape fused to backing and machine embroidered, one has beads in flower centers, Allison's Edging with beads hand stitched and trimmed to size.

Fabric shape fused to backing and machine embroidered, both have beads in flower centers, Allison's Edging with beads hand stitched and trimmed to size.

Foreground fabric fused to sky backing, layered over thin batting, Sulky invisible thread for quilting and trimmed to size.

That's done with, now back to my MPQ ABC Mystery Bag quilt, just needs trimming and the binding added! Hopefully this week finished!

Catchup - April 17th-22nd

April 17th

Nifty!!!!!!

Dang it this time the forecast seems to be more accurate! Yes it's snowing again and supposed to increase into the afternoon and continue all day!

I'm relieved that I've maybe completed the inside quilting on this baby! This is just too much for me to handle even on my Brother! Will check it out in daylight and see how it looks. I still have to quilt the outer border, but that should be easy!

April 18th

I saw this on one of my groups. Will have to show Dr McE that I'm very active when quilting, he'll get a good chuckle.

April 19th

Well another day with appointments and I've just found another benefit of reaching 65 - annual plus 80% covered eye exams - good thing as that's another downer started with aging, eye issues! And found out that most optical places are a drop off for the recycling of old Eyewear through the Cdn Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre CLERC, so another bag is gone outta here!

Also I received a lovely bag of Easter dinner goodies from Pat and family for my supper today and maybe lunch tomorrow! 💞

Once home, I started working on another set of postcards - hexies hand stitched then machine embellished, but these won't be sent out till the other set is completed. 😉🤞 Then I've just gotten another WOW idea for a couple more, then I'll switch to other projects. That would be 11 fabric postcards for the Ukraine refugees support fundraiser from me (minimum donation is $20/postcard at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada). 😘

April 21st

SHEESH another one!!!!

I hope they are wrong the full impact of this one too!!!

I totally agree and if that'll be the case here I won't be shopping there. I still insist a 'cashier' period!

"UPDATE: just heard it's peanuts coverage for vision by MB Health! Will let you know when I get my refund!"

Today was another OHHH surprised events! 😃 First off my TV had picture BUT no sound, deal with that later!

Then off to pick out my new eye glasses! There was my first surprise! An over 65 benefit is Manitoba Health covers a percentage of my glasses, just fill in the form and send it in! AWESOME! I thought getting eye examinations moved to annual and majority covered automatically was GREAT NEWS the other day! Now glasses covered to a set amount too is just WOW!!! I mean I've personal insurance so that was covered 80% to a max $$$, so this is even better!

Then back home and still no TV sound. Checked Shaw troubleshooting for this and VOILA, 5 minutes by myself I have sound back!!! Surprised myself getting that fixed without a long called in wait!

Maybe the rest of my day will continue such! 😉

I played more with the next set of postcards for the Ukraine refugees support fundraiser! I'm very pleased with the first result! 😉 At first I was thinking of an egg shape as the fabric design reminded me of Easter Egg decorations but went with the heart!

April 22nd

After talking with my sister yesterday I worked on this Easter Egg and added beads to flower centers to the other heart and egg too.

Piece Meal Kind of Day - April 16th

Ohhhhhh so beautiful!!!!  Thank you for the picture Michelle!

These are the Easter Paskas made by Michelle with her daughter Cathy and grandson Owen!  Apparently he was right into the whole process this year!  Way to go Owen!!!  P.S. I love the bunny egg holders!

Yeah I had a lovely shopping visit with Nancy and then briefly saw Sylvia and Edna for pick up/drop offs. Then home as Audrey from SewPerks was coming over to trim down the insert she'd made me and now it fits!

As a reward I picked up Edna on off to Jo Black's for coffee and shared AppleJack!

After a bit of housecleaning I finished off the three fabric postcards so either Monday or Tuesday they'll be mailed off!

I decided I wanted to assist Monika Kinner with her fundraiser of donated fabric postcards for Ukrainian refugees support.

Here's snippets of her blurb!

" 💙💛OK! It's official. 👏👏👏The Ukrainian Museum of Canada will make the Yellow&Blue and Sunflower themed quilted postcards available in their Museum Gift Shop.

...

No individual will make money from these. 100% of proceeds will go to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. They oversee Ukranian refugees coming to Canada. The Museum Gift Shop will take care of handling donations to them.

...

$20 will be the minimum suggested donation price that people will be asked to give in order to be able to chose a postcard to gift to someone. They can either take it home and mail it to someone they know, or they can leave a supportive message on it and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress / UMC will ensure it goes direct to a Ukrainian refugee family.

ISNT THAT FANTASITC!? "

Here are the first two I've made using FPP and machine embroidered seam embellishments.

Their backs!

Also today I finished off my PFA Swap postcard and can post it here but not on the FB group.

This was a "Using Batiks" theme and I decided to do a landscape, machine stitched raw edge appliquing the strips in place and finished off with a few tatted embellishments. I used Jane Eborall's Sun pattern and J&P Coats 70 thread but it was 2.25" - too big for this postcard - I've plans for it though! So I reduced the number of starting rings and stitches in all steps plus left out a row of rings and produced a 1.5" sun which worked!

Well ahead of deadline and I'm very pleased. Now I can concentrate on quilting my mystery quilt between some fun stuff too!
