Sisters Scrap Challenge 2021

Brain Child of Brandy Maslowski, Quilter on Fire, along with scrap sisters Kathy Paul and Bonnie Hooley.

Yahooooieeee!!!! During the May MPQ ZOOM meeting I succeeded to hand stitch 3/4s of the binding on the Sisters Scrap Challenge quilt and later that evening at home, totally finished all stitching! I truly didn't think I'd ever get those flippin' HSTs sewn up from the scrap package received to actually sew up a top never mind "finish it"!

I tried to find a scrappy quilt pattern while waiting for my package to arrive but all the possibilities were "scrapped" once I saw them!!! Yep none of those patterns were going to be usable for me, so I decided to go with my tentative idea of smaller sized HSTs sewn together into a larger HST block and see how many I can make up! So once working with my scraps this took ages to complete and then I had no idea where to go from there! Then I bit the bullet and decided windmill type blocks, hmmmm, not enough so then decided to use the centre cut aways from the sewn HST blocks to be incorporated in the wide sashing, then a mix of 1.5 metre and sashing fabric windmill cornerstones! Yep that worked and continued using as much as I could with only two smaller scrappy HSTs left over and the one larger HST block, so I practiced my quilting on it and have a dining tray placemat too! OK I felt I could handle the quilting on my Brother 1500 quilting machine (retirement gift from coworkers and family) but soon found out this size was definitely a NO NO for creative designs, maybe only edge to edge quilting in future or lap and smaller sized quilts.
This is my first original quilt design (except for HSTs), graphed out three times before settled and honestly may be my last!!! At one point I was just going to lay it aside but you three egged me on inspiring me to keep sewing and had more confidence in my finishing than I did! Thank you ladies!
OHHHHH and who knew that my CRV would come in handy to hold my quilt steady on my insulation board!!!

Also the group presentation will be on Pinterest, Quilter on Fire, Sisters Scrap Challenge hopefully on the weekend or next week.
