Week #10 - 2017 Year of Stitches

WOW I've managed to complete Week #10 in time for Sunday posting!  So my Annual Panel took 7 hours!  The squares consist of Love in Mist - Nigella damascena, Cat, Cyclamen - Cyclamen sp., Delphinium -Delphinium elatum, Colchicum - Colchicum autumnale, Rose of Mexico or Pink Evening Primrose - Oenothera speciosa, and Little Penquin of Phillip Island, Australia.

The Rose Table Topper took me 7 hr 10 min to complete the first fern under leaves outlined in DMC #3052 as I forgot this step last week.  Then I traced on the opposite side another fern and satin stitched the main stem and outlined in DMC #3345.

OK here are the actual Little Penquins that I saw on Phillip Island, Australia.
And below is my rendition embroidered in the last square this week!  They're sure little cuties!!!

2017 WDCC - Update

OK the guys WON 7-3 against Russia end of 9th and go straight to the Gold Medal game on Sunday March 12th at 15:00 Socchi time.  That is like 6:00 am our time if I'm right.  UGH how am I gonna do this???   Florence and Wayne are in for the Jets today and I'm meeting them for supper plus Sunday maybe for breakfast and out for my first walk in 3 weeks or so all planned for tomorrow!!!  Glad I'm feeling more myself finally.

GO CANADA GO!!!
GO TEAM COMTE!!!

2017 World Deaf Curling Association

OK John G my deaf excoworker is right now in Socchi Russia after winning the Canadian Championships in Edmonton AB in February.   They are better this year - at least I'm thinking that from their games and the scores.

Round Robin Games:
Canada 9 vs Poland 6
Canada 9 vs Ukraine 6
Canada 7 vs USA 5
Canada 15 vs S Korea 3
Canada 9 vs Hungary 3
Canada 10 vs Japan 5
Canada 7 vs Swiss 3
Canada 10 vs Poland 2
Canada 9 vs China 2
Canada 7 vs Russia 2 (game was close than score says)

Next Game: Canada vs Russia. They will be played March 11th at 6:15PM (Sochi time) for the Playoff Page 1-2.... Winner will go straight to Gold Medal Game while the loser will get a second chance by going through Semi-Final.  So in the 6th end it's Canada 4 Russia 2 - again close.

Here's the playoff schedule for the Men's teams. Starting tomorrow.

GO CANADA GO!!!
YEAH TEAM COMTE!!!

Good Morning!

I'm up early! The sun is shining and the birds are chirping outside! AND look at the lovely window art Jack Frost painted for me. Good thing I've not taken down my Christmas decorations yet.

Now to catch Team Comte curling game and I'll really enjoy my Chai latte start to my day!!!!

Complete with my NZ purchased Pepsi can airplane flying into or above heavy clouds.

Looks like an avalanche in the background.

Even with a branch to provide a 'tree' in this view.

Week #9 - 2017 Year of Stitches

I think this three week cold flu is finally leaving me!  About time!

I've managed to complete Week 9 (last week's) finally last night but too tired to post then.  So my Annual Panel took 8 hours (slower at stitching plus stitched the wrong flower and had to rip it out as I'd already stitched that one plus one I stitched instead of the planned one but that one I left in.  SHEESH this was a trial week!  The squares consist of Pinks - Dianthus plumarius, Nerine - Nerine bowdenii, Perriwinkle - Vinca major, Palm trees and beach, Chrysanthemum (button) - Chrysanthemum morifolium, Catmint - Nepeta cataria, Daphne - Daphne odora.

The Rose Table Topper took me 5 hr 45 min to complete the first fern under leaves using DMC #3052 and 936 blended and outlined in 936.

This week I'll trace the next fern on the opposite side.

Day 7 - Creative Challenge

And sadly 😞 the last one for me.  What a job searching for the pictures of what I wanted to show but yet lots of joy and feeling of achievement on creativity I've tried.  Oh there's lots I've not covered but you get the drift!  Gotta keep my hands busy.

So today I'm going to show you some of my paintings - all achieved with the assistance of my sister Sylvia, a master of whatever she attempts!  The first pair of oil paintings were a gift for Yvonne Zirnhelt when she moved away to Toronto and I can't seem to find those pictures.  I did two small water colour paintings and that is not to my liking.  Also of the three quilts I personally have for my bed depending on the weather.

Today I nominate Jody Lund to post something creative each day for seven 7⃣ days and nominate someone each day as well.

This has two 5x7 inch paintings of flying seagulls as mates.

Sun painting on fabric - lots of small pieces to pin down securely.

The unveiling - I was totally in awe!!!

I still need to embellish and finish off to display.

My very first quilt for myself sewn at Western Retreat mystery project by Verona Procyshyn - quilted by Irene Johnson.

Aurora quilters comfort quilt for me on my Dad's passing - quilted by Audrey Gate.

My door draw prize from the Christchurch quilt show I attended while visiting w Sandra Holden in NZ 2015.

Day 6 - Creative Challenge

Ohhh I've been away from my crazy quilting -  fabric embellishing for far too long now!!!  I really think I need to get back into this and finish off some of the groups swapped blocks and work on the planned CQd hearts appliqued onto velvet for myself.  One more day left for my creativity - wonder what and who I'll choose next!

Today I nominate Carol McNab to post something creative each day for seven days and nominate someone each day.

I was teaching a DYOB 'Do Your Own Block' in one of my online groups and this was my sample and an idea of mounting.

Here are the CQd bookmarks I made for a group swap (first photo).  The second is of the bookmarks I received in exchange.

This was a beading on fabric class I thoroughly enjoyed in our local group of fabric artists (now defunk).

My Father Christmas in a Hardanger class with Carolyn Mitchell @ Mrs. Twitchett's Eye needlework shop (closed) years ago!  Still have his sack to complete.

I forgot a more recent Photo Landscape Thread Painting class with Michelle Dobrin  @ MPQ - photo of my father at their first homestead in centre.

Day 5 - Creative Challenge

Well over the years I've assisted in making blocks and some with assembling the tops of comfort quilts for fellow quilters for various reasons along with stitching blocks to whole quilt tops to even a complete quilt all by myself for charity donation purposes.   Also one as a gift.  Here are just a few I've picked out.

Today I nominate Dorothy Matheson to post something creative each day for seven days and nominate someone each day as well.

Above is front and back of the donation quilt for Fort McMurray fire evacuee.

Scrappy quilt top from swapped 6.5 in charms.

Scrappy quilt top also from swapped 6.5 in charms - long arm quilted for me.

Comfort quilt for Martin Olafson (now deceased) - front and back made by members of Aurora Quilters.

Retirement gift for coworker Lorne Martin (now deceased).

Donation for a fundraiser event.

Day 4 - Creative Challenge

Day 4 - Creative Challenge - here's an exert from my March 4, 2012 blog post.

"Now I think I mentioned that my postcards will be featured in CQA "The Canadian Quilter", Spring 2012 edition, and now I have the living proof on page 26 and top of 27.  YAHOOIE!!!  I'm impressed and very pleased with the layout.  There are two postcards that really inspired me to try harder in this endeavour and I'm sorry they did not publish the artists' names, but you'll know who you are when you see it!  One day I'll scan it and blog the articles........"

Here's an example of some of my possible 400 postcards made and received in swaps over a number of years.

Today I nominate Margreet De Reus to post something creative each day for 7 days and nominate someone each day as well.

My featured postcard - Winter.

Two fabric artists that inspired me.
