Catchup: Aug 2nd-Aug 7th, 2024

I'm visiting my friends and these two welcomed me very nicely! Nearly brought me to tears seeing this, my hip/leg is paining me today!

Guess Bubba missed me! He's snuggled in under my arm! AAAHHHH!!!

OHHH what a lovely day, nice temperatures awesome breezes and I wish I was out walking some beach in the water, even Birds Hill! BUT dang it I had to close the shading umbrella as twice it tried to join the fictitious Mary Poppins!!! Won't be out here long in the sun without my wide brim hat that I forgot!

Hmmmmm wwonder what he wants????

Aug 4th

Hmmmm I got just jipped out of breakfast on the deck today with the light rain!!! Not fair!!!

Hmmmm a hot tub or a massage would probably feel good today, might soothe the sore back!!! I've been careful around these two pugs as they like going between ones feet, nope they were ahead of me, not close at all. But still I misjudged my step and balance, thankful for the low wall between landing and basement stairs, but I saved myself from worse aches.

Aug 7th

While out running errands passed by this garden. So beautiful!!!

And remember the flooded yard and my digging the remaining 6 foot draining trench so it could drain into the ditch! Well it's finally gone!!! And if road construction plans go through that property will be gone and a big ditch near there for better drainage?

UPDATE: July 22-Aug 1, 2024

 July 22nd

What a lovely day out with Edna and Sylvia, Olive Garden for lunch then down Birds Hill Rd Hwy 202 to Lockport (never taken that route before, lovely peaceful drive). Then onto Selkirk to Lori, Night Owl Quilting & Dye Works, to pick up Sylvia's stitched horses quilt from her and drop off my Scrappy Triangles quilt to her!!! Beautiful stitching Lori, hope you post about it!

Then to the Big Dollar and I thought we'd go to Gimli for supper but my hip acted up while shopping so back home to trim the 2 foot high grasses from the step and to relax in the gravity lounger!

This isn't "my" technique and sorry I don't recall where I picked it up from either! Lori said to pass this on for others to learn from so I'm posting!

I've had to piece either blocks, borders or backings together with definite images or designs! This is how I do it!

Cut pieces bigger than needed of similar designs (big fussy cutting), fold over 1/2" seam allowance and place over other piece to be joined matching the design aspects. NOW'S what I find the tricky part and sometimes I have to redo it a couple times to get it JUST SO!!! Now carefully the lift folded part and pin in place near fold. Flip back to see if it's still in the right place, adjust if needed, then flip back right sides together and sew on fold. Flip back and if RIGHT ON then trim to 1/4" seam allowance and cut to desired size!

Here is Sylvia's example, mine are hidden in the albums somewhere!

July 23rd

Ohhhh a descent temperature day to enjoy outside! Even they are smelling the wild flowers growing in the yard. Not sure when the grass will be cut as it's still getting rained on off and on!!!

July 24th

Nifty idea!!!

Beautiful!!!

How very true for me!!!

Great idea!!!

A very warm muggy sunny day! It FEELS and looks like it'll rain but forecast says not! Hope that's so so Taunya can get this grass cut, at least half as Princess here is stepping carefully in it! Does not like it wet!!!

So had a few errands and even accidentally met with Sylvia at Urbanology checking out store closing sales. She even bought me lunch in the food court, we actually shared the meal. Then picked up some treats for Urban Garage staff now that they've reopened after riverbank maintenance by the city. So awesome they are available again!

Now feet up relaxing in the AC, pugs beside me!!!

July 26th

Yeah I've finally completed the quilting and label on another MPQ ABC NICU coverlet. The red and black blocks gifted from Barb P, but had to figure out how to make a square. So pulled out my possible fabrics, was surprised that the red with black dots one matched what was in the blocks! Then cut the multi coloured fabric to fill in for the top and added borders for a 35.5" square. I did the pilow slip technique, closed the opening, then with the help of my rulers I straight pin marked the quilting lines rather than using marking pens. This was also my first to machine attach the label.

I've one more to sandwich and quilt sooner than later, BUT won't be as easy to quilt this one!!!

July 27th

A quiet day with Edna that ended with a visit at Angela's! These are only parts of the areas.

July 29th

OH SHIT!!!! That lightning clap was very very very close and has my heart racing!!! I hate storms!!!

July 30th

Well I started my day earlier than usual so called Edna and my neighbour Aida and arranged for a walk. Drove to Edna's and we headed east on Sturgeon Creek Pathway to Grant's Old Mill and back. Short but sweet of 3,408 steps with 3 brief rest stops for me. Thank you ladies for getting me out!!!

The beige block peaking out on the right is Edna's apartment block, lovely view of the north pathway across the creek!

Aug 1st

Yeah, I've finished another UFO today. This one is from leftover HSTs over the past few years and those finished HSTs are 3/4" in each set of blocks. I added my own sashings and swear this took close to the same time frame that a regular sized blocks quilt would take. I'd wanted to do an overall quilting pattern but chickened out and took the easy road again. So it's finished and in the fall will be donated to the MPQ, ABC program for one of the NICU incubator coverlets. 36.5" square
